About Me

Hello and welcome!  My name is Melissa, and I live in Northeast Ohio with two large and demanding cats that I love very much – Jake and Elwood.

This is Jake.

This is Jake's brother, Elwood.

While the cats often hang out in the kitchen with me (usually underfoot), I cook mainly for myself, my boyfriend, my family and my friends.

I started blogging a few years ago at my family’s blog:  Lettuce Never Squash Our Love.  It started a few years ago when some family and friends joined a local CSA (Community Supported Agriculture).  They wanted a place to share recipes and see what everyone was receiving in their CSA boxes each week.  Not long after, I joined Basket of LIfe Farm as a CSA Member and started blogging along with them.

With this blog, I wanted to literally invite people into my kitchen and talk about how I really cook, whether it’s a big dinner on the weekend, or quick meals during the week that do double duty as dinner and lunch the next day.

My cooking style is simple.  It has to be yummy.  All right, and healthy too – most of the time.  Truly, I just try to use fresh, local, seasonal ingredients and not screw them up.  That’s it!

I love where I live – I’m close to the Cuyahoga Valley National Park area, and tons of local farms.  In summer and fall, I get a CSA share from Basket of Life Farm, and throughout the year, I go to local farmers markets run by Countryside Conservancy.   I’m also lucky enough to have a number of fantastic local wineries and breweries close to home that I take advantage of whenever I can!

So welcome, my friends, and step into my kitchen!  Have a drink, have a snack, and let’s chat for a bit…
